Where's Waldo?

Overall, I think I did “aight”.  I wish I finished under 2 hours but hey I ran 13 miles so no complaints over here!

I recommend this race to ANYONE including experts, beginners, grandmas, toddlers (well maybe not them) this race was very well-organized, has a beautiful course and did I mention Tedy Bruschi ran next to me?  Yes, you might even run side by side a celebrity.

Besides running, I really need to implement more strength training into my routine but I need some direction.  I was debating between getting a personal trainer or joining CrossFit.  The costs are relatively the same so I don’t know… help!!!!

Speaking of finances I need to save more.  What better way than to drop a couple Gs at Sephora (and Whole Foods) this week.  PS I might have left my pay check at Sephora so if you find it please return asap.

I did buy one thing I need…

I love Tocca perfumes.  I used to wear DG light blue but I like to switch it up here and there.

Ugh, talking about shopping and finances makes me depressed.  Moving on…

On Tuesday, I went to a BostonBloggers outing and met some great girls.

@ one my favorite restaurants in Boston - Eastern Standard

Ali, Erin, me, MB, Sara, sister and Maddie :)

Can’t wait for future get togethers – thank you Erin for setting everything up!

Tonight, I made quinoa with black beans and corn (with onions, garlic, cayenne pepper and cumin) and I sautéed kale and brocoli with garlic on side.

Quinoa might be my favorite food right now.  YUM!

How is everyone’s week going so far?

CrossFit or a personal trainer - what would you do?

I think its great that you want to do some more strength training! And congrats on those 13 miles- awesome! Now, I’m not a big fan of CrossFit. I know everyone has their fitness pet peeves, and CrossFit is mine. I’ve done many classes of CrossFit and have friends who do it and no matter how hard I try, I can’t get past the fact that I think you work too hard (yes, its possible to work too hard) and end up doing most of the moves with poor form because you are racing against a clock. Strength training should be about just that- strength. Not speed. There is a time and place for competition and I just don’t think the weight room is it; CrossFit, in my opinion, is a recipe for injury.

That said, I think getting some books on weight lifting for women and subscribing to some magazines about weight lifting is a great place to start . I LOVE Muscle and Fitness-Hers. Its a serious lifting magazine so you don’t have to wish to look like the women in it, but they have a wonderful emphasis on technique, nutrition, and training. I think it was one of the best magazines I ever invested in.

Good luck with your new training! I hope you learn to love lifting as much as I do :)

Liz, thank you so much for the adivce and the kind words! I loved the half marathon marathon no wonder so many people are addicted to races!

I have been going back and forth with the idea of CrossFit after looking at crossfitcraic.com (one near my neck of the woods) but it looks intense. I was worried about the “working too hard” part because I heard stories of ppl who got seriously hurt. I just might have to pass – plus it’s pricey. I was thinking of getting a personal trainer to help with weight lifting a couple days per week because I have no idea what I am doing. However, personal training gets pricey and once I stop going I feel like I’ll forget what to do (speaking from experience). I will definitely look at Muscle and Fitnes-Hers and start to track my weight training – my upper body needs some serious help!
